EXCELD logoEXCELD Tutoring

EXCELD (EXcellence in Calculus/STEM for Engineering Leadership Development) program supports first-year engineering students in math, chemistry, and physics through tutoring. Freshmen receive tutoring from upperclassmen engineering mentors for subject-specific assistance. Launched in 2020 with support from Chevron, Halliburton, and Marathon, Chevron now serves as the sustaining sponsor.

Applications are open to all first-year engineering majors at the beginning of each semester. Students who participate during their freshmen year are eligible to continue tutoring their third semester at LSU. In this program, we aim to solidify a strong foundation in STEM courses and establish meaningful connections to help students EXCEL in their engineering courses and careers.

Apply for Fall 2026: Applications will open in July.

Applications for Spring 2026 are closed.

Mandatory Criteria:

  • First-year Engineering Student (or second-year student who participated in EXCELD their first year at LSU)
  • Enrolled in at least one of the EXCELD course offerings

Students will be notified of acceptance via email prior to the start of the semester.

Contact the EXCELD Program Staff for more information: exceld@lsu.edu.
